Reactor Operator Training Program

Students at the University of Maryland have the opportunity to become licensed Reactor Operators at the Maryland University Training Reactor. The training program takes place over the course of 2 semesters, one for lectures on reactor theory, procedures, and regulations, and one for hands on reactor operations. Classes begin each year in the Fall Semester. Students who pass the final exam of the theory class may move on to taking the hands on portion of the training. After successful completion of the training program, students will have the opportunity to sit for the Reactor Operator licensing exam* administered by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the application below.  The training program requires a commitment of approximately 5 hours a week for training, and you must be able to commit to serve as a reactor operator for at least 1 year after receiving your license.
