The experimental facilities of the MUTR can be used to test neutron detector performance. Fluxes as high as 5*10¹² n/cm²/s (or as low as 1*10^-2 n/cm²/s) are available, and neutron fluxes can be rapidly varied over 6 orders of magnitude.

The Co-60 Irradiator at the UMDRF can be used to establish the gamma sensitivity of neutron detectors as well.
